MINUTES
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
APRIL 7, 1986
Meeting called to order by Connie Lasser.
Members Present: Keith Moderson, Bob Gehrz, Floyd Bedbury, Connie Lasser,
Paul Nelson, Tom Montain, Ardis Hutchins, Council Liaison Ciernia and Pat
Bush, Recreation Director.
Members Absent: Tom Amman, and Leo and Jean Ohman
1. 1986 Summer Program
Pat Bush presented the activities scheduled for the summer recreation program.
These activities will go out in the next newsletter. Some detailed changes
were discussed. Perhaps some of the nature classes will be offered at the
Grove and the Falcon Heights Learning Center. The Friday. activities will be
finalized also. Connie and Pat will also look into the possibility of a
tennis backstop at Idaho-Snelling.
2. 1666 Coffman
• The Park and Recreation Subcommittee on the Grove Park has presented a map
and list of suggested playground equipment for the Grove. However, before it
is formally presented to this Park and Recreation Commission, the Grove
Homeowners Association plan to do some preliminary checking with the University
of Minnesota.
3. Recreation Director
Pat Bush indicated that as Recreation Director she would appreciate some long
term guidance for her position--specifically as it relates to the Commission's
goals for activity programs as well as physical improvements.
4. Volleyball
The possibility of volleyball stands and nets at Idaho-Snelling and Falcon
Heights Learning Center will be looked into.
5. Groups Using Parks
It was suggested that civic groups be allowed to use the parks free although
a deposit would be required. Dewan Barnes will coordinate with the City
Council for a listing of approved civic groups. The rental fee schedule
will be reviewed before the winter programs begin.

6. Communitv Park
The fence on the north end of the basketball play area will be checked and
possibly removed to ease mowing.
7. Beer in the Park
Paul Ciernia reported that the City Council voted to allow alcohol in the
city parks under the following conditions:
(a) If there is a gathering of over 25 people, a park permit
is required.
(b) If beer is desired by this group, a beer permit is also
required.
8. Bike Rodeo
This has been scheduled for May 17th with May 31st as an alternate in case
of rain. Keith Moderson will act as Chairperson of this group. Time,
location, method of advertising, program, coordination with Deputy
Sheriff, etc all will be arranged.
