POLICY ITEM: Donate money from the Falcon Heights Friends of the Parks
Fund to the recreation scholarship account.

EXPLINATION/DESCRIPTION
Summary and Action Requested: The recreation budget includes a line item
for scholarships for families who cannot afford to pay for recreation programs.
This year 42 children requested and qualified for scholarships.
Budgeted for scholarship $200
Donations to scholarship fund $68
Cost of scholarships $905
Scholarship deficit $637
Staff recommends a donation to the scholarship fund, from the Friends of the
Parks Fund. The current balance of the FOTP Fund is $2100. This donation will
• help the Recreation Program stay within budget while continuing to promote
recreation opportunities for those who could not otherwise afford them.
ACTION REQUESTED:
The Park Commission is being asked to make a recommendation to the City
Council to donate $637 from the Falcon Heights Friends of the Parks Fund to the
recreation scholarship account.

Deaz Mr. Maertz:
Thank you for submitting your project for funding through the Local Trail Connections Grant Program. For your information we
received 37 trail grant applications for projects requesting over $2.3 million. As I understand it, your project is to surface an
undeveloped dirt path that provides a connection between Falcon Height's Grove Pazk and Lauderdale's Nature Reserve.
I am writing to inform you that your project successfully passed the initial review by our staff. You have been awarded a grant in
the amount of $54,000. This will be reimbursed to you on a matching basis.
However, before we can proceed to contract, we will need to complete some additional paperwork. Enclosed is the Local Trail
Connections Grant Program Documentation Checklist, which indicates what needs to be completed. The environmental review
process involves several key review areas. It is necessary to complete and successfully fulfill all requirements of this review
before selection of your project has been finalized and a contract can be established. This review must be finished by
September 1, 2003 in order to assure that the funding will remain in place. Please feel free to contact our office if you have
any questions about the process or timeline. The Documentation Checklist contains important information about contacts and
addresses for each of the agencies involved in the review.
Please remember that no receipts for reimbursement will be honored for your project that precede a mutually agreeable signed
contractual agreement. that specifies the terms and conditions of project reimbursement. In slightly different words, do not spend
any money on this project that you exuect reimbursement for until you actually have a signed contract in front of you .
Also be advised that this grant will expire on December 31, 2004. Please notify us immediately if you are unable to complete
the project before December 31, 2004.
