. Park and Recreation Updates:
Working on Hiring Summer Staff
• Accepting application till May 13th
• 29 Applicants. 9 returning, 14 new, 6 Jr. Leaders volunteers
• Conducting Interviews Starting May 16- up till beginning of June
• Training Mid June, two day training.
Programs
• Low numbers, not sure where we were at last year at this time?
• Full Programs: Messy Art- will be adding a 3'd if needed.
• Doing good- Mighty Mites, Ball Skills, Boys Basketball, some soccer classes.
• Lacking-Playgrounds, lacrosse, t-ball, babysitters training, and tennis
Looking at putting Program information on back of city flyer that goes out the 24~'
hope that attracts some interest.

April 11, 2005

1. Meeting called to order 7:00 PM
2. Approval of minutes February 14, 2005 (Evans, Long) Evans asked about the
• Parks and Recreation position, Hoag explained that January 1, 2005 the
position was merged with an administrative position to make afull-time
position with dual roles.

4. Staff Report
a. Recreation Supervisor /Administrative Assistant Position
Hoag reported that Lisa Anderson has been hired for the position.
There were 73 applicants for the position and that Lisa will be a great fit
for the City. Lisa comes to Falcon Heights with a BS degree in
Recreation, Parks and Leisure Studies as well as 10 years of municipal
experience. Lisa is currently wrapping up work in three other cities as
well as working part-time for. Falcon Heights. She will start full- time on
May 2.
b. New Commission Members
Hoag reported that the city has received and application from a resident
in the Grove neighborhood. Mayor Gehrz has spoken with Mr. Gene
Ozasky and is asking the City Council to appoint him to the Parks and
Recreation Commission at Wednesday's meeting. It was noted that this
will bring the Commission to five members. There are still four
vacancies. Kuettel said she has a candidate, however the person is
caring for a sick family member at this time and it may be a couple of
• months until they have the time to serve on the Commission.
c. Field Use Requests
Hoag reported that he and City Administrator, Heather Worthington held
a meeting with North Suburban Soccer Association (NSSA) to inform
them of the direction given by the Commission at the February meeting
to deny the field use request for this season and to study park use
through-out the summer. Hoag also reported that he has been meeting
with surrounding cities, to try to develop some policies and a fee
structure that is consistent from city to city for groups such as NSSA.
d. School Playground Update
Hoag reported that he has been involved with the school playground
committee: The committee has made a recommendation to the PTSA
on which playground structure would best serve the school. Hoag also
reported that he received an a-mail from Paul Charest, school Principal
last week. In the a-mail Paul stated that the PTSA also recommended
the same playground structure. Some funding issues still remain; at this
point no purchase agreement has been signed.
• e. 2005 Goals
Hoag asked the Commission members to think about future goals and
Capital Improvement ideas. The focus of the May meeting will be
planning for the future. Hoag will put together a packet of information for
Commission members to review prior to the May meeting to help
facilitate discussion. It was noted that this is a good time to review the
goals for Parks and Recreation because of the changes in staff in the
last year.
f. Recreation Update
Hoag reported that the Summer Recreation flyer was distributed to the
schools in mid March. Registration began April 1. Kuettel noted that in
the transition of staff that the phone number listed on the flyer still had
rink information on the voice mail. With Lisa now working the voice mail
has been changed. Hoag reported that staff will have an update on
registrations at the May meeting.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Dolan Seconded by Evans. Meeting
ended at 8:15 p. m.
