Eric Maronde, Annie Green, Pam Harris, Gene Ozasky, Tim Pittman Absent: Lisa Abernathy, Paula Mielke 1. Meeting called to order 6:35 PM 2. Approval of agenda • Motion made by Ozasky and seconded by Green Pittman announced to the Commission that Pat Dolan will no longer be able to serve on the Parks and Recreation Commission due to some family health issues. 3. Approval of minutes December 18, 2006 Meeting Motion made by Green and seconded by Ozasky. 4. Staff Report Recreation Update- Pittman reported on Abernathy's behalf on the recreation update. Another adult Yoga session would be beginning in January. The Clay class scheduled to start in January has been cancelled due to low enrollment and the Dead of Winter will be Sunday, January 28th. Park Commissioners are encouraged to attend. Pittman also updated the Commission on the status of the outdoor rinks. Curtiss Field and Falcon Heights Elementary have started to be flooded; Community Park will not be flooded this season. Pittman reported that the rink is too far gone to get it in good skating condition. The rink season will end Monday, February 19th. The Commission also discussed the flooding of the Grove ice rink. Pittman is looking into getting that rink flooded as well. • 5. Update on Comprehensive Plan Survey The Commission discussed looking at other cities comprehensive plans to give us some ideas or guideline to follow as we recreate Falcon Heights Park Comprehensive Plan. Pittman said he would gather information from other communities (Lauderdale, St. Anthony Park, Roseville, etc.) and report back. The Commission also discussed finding out the deadline for the City's comprehensive plan so the Commission could then work backwards to ensure the completion of the Parks section of the City's Comprehensive Plan. 6. 2007 Goals and Objectives Commission members approved the new 2007 Goals and Agendas submitted by Abernathy. The Commission then discussed the U of M park leases. They questioned where they are at and when they would be up. Pittman said he would look into this issue and report back. 6. Elect New Chair- New Members Park Commissioner Gene Ozasky has volunteered to serve as Chair for this year. Motion was made by Maronde and seconded by Green. Adult Golf Lessons The Falcon Heights Parks and Recreation and the University of Minnesota Golf Course are working together to offer some great golf lessons this summer! Below are some classes that will be starting in April for adults of all ages. Lessons are in a group setting designed to take you through a series of three lessons covering putting, chipping, full swing and scoring techniques. The PGA professionals design the classes to accommodate every level player from beginner to advanced. Bring you own equipment if you have it otherwise there will be equipment there for you to use. Registration starts Thursday, March 1st! Pre- Registration is required. • Classes are 1 hour Cost: $74 Resident $85 Non Resident • Classes are held at the University of Minnesota Golf Course Learning Center- 2275 W. Larpenteur. April "Spring Kick-off" Lessons Ages 7-12 Get a jump on the golf season with help from our PGA golf professionals. Juniors will be led through a 4 week course focusing on developing pre-swing funda- mentals, short game techniques, full swing drills and scoring management. Participants will also learn the proper rules and etiquette of golf during this session. Included is all golf equipment if needed, a snack, shirt and other fun golf stuff! All levels are welcome.
