PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING _
SEPTEMBER 9, 1991
MEMBERS PRESENT: Carol Huso, Jeff Johnson, Lloyd Jacobson, Carol
Kriegler, Sam Jacobs
MEMBERS ABSENT: Mike Farrell, Linda McLoon, Steve Schugal,
Jyneen Thatcher, David Wickhem
1. Curtiss Field Update
Carol Kriegler gave a summary of the work done to date. In
general, progress has been slower than anticipated. Although the
building is now 75$ complete, the building contractor has been slow
which in turn has prohibited the site contractor from working at
their scheduled pace. Scott Midness was contacting both
contractors in an effort to expedite their progress and remind them
of their contractual obligation to complete the project within 90
working days. In general, the project has gone smoothly with no
change orders yet processed to date.
2. Curtiss Field Dedication
Carol Kriegler reported that Scott Midness would be giving her
an update at the end of the week regarding the scheduling of a date
for the park dedication ceremony. Although he thought it was
premature to eliminate the possibility of having the event on
October 12, he thought it was quite possibly unrealistic. He would
not want to recommend a date until assessing the progress made in
the coming week. The commission discussed the options of holding
the event on either of the next two Saturdays or next spring. The
consensus was that holding the event in November was not an option
because of the possibility of undesirable weather. Although it
would be a disappointment, it was felt that the event should occur
in the spring if October 19 or 26th are not possibilities. Carol
Kriegler will contact Carol Huso next week in an effort to schedule
the event. (Since the Sept. 9 Commission Meeting, the dedication
has been planned for Saturday, October 26th)
Discussion followed concerning the schedule of activities planned.
The desire was for a 2 hour afternoon event with games, relays,
races, paper airplane flying contest and refreshments. Sam
indicated a willingness on the part of the Lions Club to assist in
• serving refreshments as long as they are not involved in any
purchasing. Cider and cookies was suggested.
3. Fall Programs
Carol Kriegler reported that the fall program flyer would be
distributed to schools on Wednesday, September 18. This was being
delayed so that distribution could be coordinated -with the
distribution of the school's community education program flyer that
is anticipated to occur on the 18th. It was hoped that this delay
would allow us to include information regarding the dedication.
Planned programs were briefly outlined with the opportunity for
suggestions.

Carol Huso expressed her disappointment with the poor
attendance at this and the last commission meeting. Carol Kriegler
responded with a report that two or more members were involved in
a scheduling conflict as a result of September's PTA meeting
occurring on this date. The attending members felt that all
members seemed dedicated and that attendance over time has been
very good. The possibility was suggested that the explanation for
recent poor attendance was simply scheduling conflicts. Carol Huso
and Carol Kriegler agreed to further explore ideas for insuring
good attendance.
As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
8:00 P.M.
