Minutes of the Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
7:00 P.M., Monday, June il, 1990
Members present: Connie Lasser, Linda McLoon, Steve
Schugal, Deborah Weiland, Carol Huso, Carol Kriegler, Park
Director, Art Lindig
Members absent: Jeff Johnson, Jyneen Thatcher, Jean Suppes,
Lloyd Jacobson, Sam Jacobs, Council Liaison
1. We welcomed new member Carol Huso, who lives in the
Falcon Woods neighborhood.
2. Carol gave an update on the park building.
a. Work is 1 week behind, but there was 1 week of
slack built into the plan. Blocks are in and roof trusses
are going in.
b. The $8,000 water hook-up with St. Paul was
definitely not excluded from the bid. It appears that the
city will not have to pay it and that the building
construction company will have to pick up this bill. Carol
will keep an eye out that they do not cut corners to make up
• this large difference.
3. Site Amenities
Selections now include:
a. plastic coated steel 8 ft picnic tables, 270 lbs each
for $340. Carol will order 16. They are rugged, durable
and low to no maintenance.
b. concrete aggregate trash receptacles, 550 lbs, $340
each. (Peterson Concrete Leisure products, Inc.). Eight are
needed.
c. Bleachers, plastic coated $1,000 Polyplank Inc.
d. Park benches, cedar. 6 feet, $235 each.
e. Barbecue grills at $134 each, 2 needed.
Carol has looked into anchoring the picnic tables. There
will be chain anchors into the dirt. Eyebolts for the
building or the cement are being considered for the
building. Carol asked permission of city council to order
the drinking fountain, picnic tables, several waste
receptacles and park benches, with the understanding that
requests for outside funding would be vigorously pursued.
These items take 30 days to arrive, and we need them for the
ice cream social July 26.
A letter has gone out to the Roseville and Falcon Heights
Jaycees, all three local Lions clubs, Kiwanis, North
• Suburban Youth Association, Roseville Rotary and the B'dale
men's club. We have been contacted by the Jaycees and a
presentation will be made to them. A volunteer called who
said he would stain and paint the building's exterior. He
thought local stores might donate paint.
4. Idaho/Snelling
We would like to request $8,000 in improvements. Carol
will contact Sam Jacobs to see if a group can be organized
that can then apply for the "Can Do" grants from the state.
Landscaping and grading the N and W sides, plus 18
spruce is $6,258. Fencing would be about $2,000. We agreed
that we would ask the city council to budget funds for this
expense, but would still actively seek out funding from
private and other public sources.
5. Cable TV
Carol asked for volunteers to tape events for the cable
network. We all will think about appropriate events to
tape.
6. Torch Run
The torch run is July 4, at around 4 p.m. Mary Jo
McGuire will get it at McDonalds and run to Roselawn where
Tom Baldwin will take it to Snelling. Carol has a list of
• 10 people who will take it through Falcon Heights, but may
need some pinch runners at the last moment. We all
volunteered to come help if we were in town.
7. City Council Minutes and Agendas
Jan asked if we would like to receive city council
minutes and agendas at our homes. We all agreed it was a
great idea.
8 Ice Cream Social
Art indicated that due to the new building the turn-out
for the ice cream social would be greater than usual. He
thought the seniors would not be able to make enough cakes.
We agreed to solicit cakes from ourselves and neighbors.
9. As there was no further business the meeting was
adjourned at 8:45.
