MINUTES
City of Falcon Heights
Parks and Recreation Commission
December 8, 1997, 7:00 PM
Present: Carol Kriegler (Parks Director), Laura Kuettel (Council Liaison) and Greg Schaefer.
Absent: Donna Daykin, Peter Lindstrom, Lois Millett and Nancy Wickhem.
1. Minutes of the October 13, 1997 meeting were not available.
2. Agenda Item D-1 Annual Recreation Program Schedule
Having reviewed the recreational programs with consistent levels of strong participation, Director
Carol Kriegler proposed an annual schedule to assist in facilitating staff and providing the community
with anticipated program dates.
Each seasonal activity was listed with a schedule for an anticipated flyer distribution week, a
registration week and a start week.
3. Upcoming Events
It was decided that due to potential weather conflicts that there would again be no registration fee for
playground hockey, or for skating lessons. The starting date will be Saturday, January 3, 1998. The
Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association Bantam League has contacted the Falcon Heights Parks
and Recreation Commission to assist in hosting an open house for the Community Park and Curtiss
Field ice skating rinks to be held on January 3rd. Cookies and hot cider or cocoa are expected to be
served.
An informational flyer for basketball lessons is expected to be distributed on January 7th. Registration
is open to January 23rd. Lessons will begin on Monday, January 26th.
The Falcon Heights Open Gyms will be extended thru April 4, 1998.
The Dead of Winter Event is scheduled for Sunday, February 8, 1998 at Community Park. Horse
drawn sleigh rides will again be the featured activity.
Alternative band selections will be considered for the Annual Ice Cream Social
4. Agenda Item D-2 Fire Pit at Community Park
A map was prepared reflecting elevations to assist in selecting a possible site for a fire pit at
Community Park. Due fo wind concerns, potential~fire hazards and burning permit guidelines, it was
decided to hold off any decision on location or approval of a fire pit.: One suggestion was to plan a
test fire during the upcoming summer.'
