Minutes of the January 8, 2007 meeting were approved. Miller made a presentation about the Minnesota Energy Challenge project. The commission agreed that it would be worthwhile for the commission to publicize the project to our residents. Miller stated he would make sure it was publicized in our city communications. Miller also provided an update on the Sierra Club “Cool Cities” project, but recommended that we wait for Lindstrom to be present since he was the person who initially brought this to the commission’s attention. Miller provided an update on the community garden project, including contacts he was given in regards to fertilizer from the University and a potential plow/tiller for the site. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM. City of Falcon Heights Community Garden Committee Meeting Minutes February 12, 2007 Present: Jim Kielsmeier, Sam Bontrager, Gretel Keene, Justin Miller, Diane Ross, Ron Kroese, Michael Myers The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM. The commission reviewed the draft rules and regulations and made a few minor changes. Fencing was discussed, and Kroese suggested looking at a rabbit fence product he has seen at Menards. It was agreed that some sort of fencing should be in place. Kielsmeier will investigate. The topic of tool storage was discussed, with options ranging from no on-site storage to a portable shed being constructed. Miller will look into options and report back to the committee. An organized trash/compost disposal system will need to be developed. Options include constructing a snow fence circle in the area for gardeners to dispose of their trash/compost. Kroese brought up the idea that in other gardens people are required to donate a set amount of time to the general upkeep of the garden as a whole. Four hours might be appropriate for our garden.
