The minutes of June 11 were reviewed. A correction was made that a quorum of the commission was later present and the May 14th minutes were subsequently approved. Ross moved, and Bontrager seconded that the June 11th minutes be approved as amended. All voted in favor. Miller provided a presentation supplied by Waste Management regarding their single-sort recycling program. Questions that arose were the validity of their numbers, as well as the cost differential for various size recycling containers. Lindstrom agreed to follow-up with other communities regarding their satisfaction with single-sort, and Miller will follow-up with Waste Management on cost issues. Miller then briefly presented information on the draft comprehensive plan update. He asked the commission to review the materials and to be prepared to discuss it at the next meeting. Miller discussed what he learned from the different haulers regarding billing inserts. Kroese suggested that we put a challenge figure, such as a 5% increase, on the flyer to encourage more recycling. Lindstrom suggested that we also put some basic recycling info in it to educate the residents. Staff will create a draft flyer and present it to the commission at our next meeting. The commission then discussed setting up a table at the Ice Cream Social to distribute materials. A sign-up email will be sent out to the commission. The community gardeners then joined the meeting to discuss various issues relating to the garden. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.
