The minutes of July 10 were reviewed. A quorum was not present, but no corrections were noted. Kroese chaired the meeting as Kielsmeier was absent. Miller presented the draft recycling flyer to be inserted in garbage bills. Several changes were suggested, as well as recommending that a goal bet set that 80% of households recycle by the end of the year. Miller said that the changes would be made and the flyers will be sent out. Information will also be sent out in newsletters, flyers, and on the city’s website. Lindstrom provided an update on the commission’s activities at the Ice Cream Social. Miller provided an update on information gathered from Waste Management regarding single sort recycling, specifically how the new carts would be delivered/paid for. He stated that the cost of the new carts would be included as part of the overall recycling charges. Lindstrom indicated that he was still gathering information from other communities regarding their satisfaction with a single-sort recycling program. Ross asked how to proceed from here. Miller recommended that the commission wait until a quorum was present, and then make a recommendation to the city council on their desire to see the program further researched. A workshop could then be held to present the item to the city council. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 PM.
