Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
September 10, 2007
Present: Diane Ross, Frank Meah, Jim Kielsmeier, Sam Bontrager, Ron Kroese, Justin Miller
Absent: Gretel Keene, Peter Lindstrom, Susan Harding,
The commission meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM.
The minutes of July 10 and August 13 were approved as submitted.
Miller told the commission that both Waste Management and Walter’s have received the recycling flyer and it will be going out in their upcoming bills. He is continuing to work with
the other haulers to have them place it in their bills. The material was also in the most recent Falcon Flyer.
Discussion on single sort recycling was tabled until a meeting where more of the commission is present.
The commission then reviewed the existing terms of office and noted that there will be three vacancies at the end of 2007. Kielsmeier urged commissioners to recruit potential members.
Kroese suggested that the community garden group be looked at for possible new members. Kielsmeier also noted that it would be nice to have city-wide representation.
There was a brief discussion on the status of the garden, but no major updates were presented. The commission will continue to monitor the garden to see what additions/improvements
need to be made.
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM.
