Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 13, 2008
Present: Diane Ross, Ron Kroese, Peter Lindstrom, Stan Sveen, Ethan Wagner,
Justin Miller, Sam Bontrager
Absent: Nina Semmelroth, Gretel Keene, Michael Talbot
The commission meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM.
1. Minutes of September 8th were approved
2. In response to an inquiry at the last meeting, Miller told the commission that the city code does not address wood burning stoves/furnaces except that they need to be inspected upon
installation.
3. Miller provided a review of how the city currently bills for sanitary sewer charges, and passed along the wishes of the city council for the commission to review a rate structure
based on water usage. After discussing the pros and cons of each approach, it was the consensus of the commission to look at a tiered rate so that heavy users would have more of an
incentive to conserve water.
4. Miscellaneous items discussed were recycling at city parks, organic material recycling, and how to identify which buildings were being powered by wind energy. The commission also
asked for a report on the energy efficient rebate program at the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
