Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
December 8, 2008
Present: Ron Kroese, Peter Lindstrom, Nina Semmelroth, Ethan Wagner,
Justin Miller, Sam Bontrager
Absent: Stan Sveen, Diane Ross, Gretel Keene, Michael Talbot
The commission meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM.
1. Minutes of October 13th were approved
2. Miller introduced the possible 2009 MPCA grant opportunity available to cities. He also handed out an example of “smart” power strips that could be purchased through the grant.
Kroese suggested that the grant application be in conjunction with a broader education initiative. Bontrager mentioned energy usage monitors might be a good use as well. Semmelroth
indicated that it might be worthwhile to engage the University, State Fair, or Lauderdale as partners. Lindstrom asked that each commissioner come to the next meeting with 2-3 ideas
for a grant application.
3. Miller updated the commission on community garden expansion proposals. Bontrager agreed to look at the current design and come up with ideas on how to expand it by ten plots.
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 pm.
