Ross moved, and Semmelroth seconded that the March 10th minutes be approved. No objections were heard, so they were approved as submitted. Miller told the commission that he had not heard from Jim Jacques of the Minnesota Climate Change Corps since our last meeting, so there was not much to update. The commission discussed the possibility of going ahead with the Cool Cities/Mayor’s Kyoto Protocol agreement, but agreed to wait until we heard more from the Climate Change Corps. Wagner also presented a graphical illustration of February Twin Cities temperatures dating back to the 1890s. Miller presented an energy efficient appliance rebate program. Under this proposal, residents who purchase eligible appliances would be able to recoup 50% of their permit fee. Both Semmelroth and Sveen asked if we should wait until the council approves the Cool Cities agreement so that we can get credit for this initiative. Miller and Lindstrom stated that we could proceed ahead of adoption of the agreement and still use the idea as one of the items listed to reduce our city’s carbon emissions. Semmelroth moved and Sveen seconded that the commission recommend to the city council that the program be implemented. All voted in favor. Miller gave a brief update on the community garden. Once a garden workday has been established, the commission will be notified in case they want to help out. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM.
