Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
July 14, 2008
Present: Diane Ross, Ron Kroese, Justin Miller, Sam Bontrager
Absent: Nina Semmelroth, Gretel Keene, Peter Lindstrom Stan Sveen, Michael Talbot, Ethan Wagner
The commission meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM.
Jim Jacques from the Minnesota Climate Change presented a draft work plan for their work with the US Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement. Miller presented information that had been
compiled regarding energy use at city hall, and it was determined that more information (further back than 2007) was needed. Miller will work with staff to get that information. Jacques
also recommended that the University be approached about having them help out by providing information from the St. Paul campus.
Miller then spoke about the Ice Cream Social on July 31st and asked if the commission wanted to staff a table. It was agreed that the commission should, and a sign-up email will be
sent asking for volunteers.
Miller presented information about Xcel Energy’s Windsource program. It was suggested that a specific energy user, such as a warming house or a set of park lights, be identified as
a target to purchase wind energy. Since there was light attendance at the meeting, this item will be brought back to the commission at a later meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM.
