Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
January 12, 2009
Present: Ron Kroese, Peter Lindstrom, Diane Ross, Gretel Keene, Justin Miller
Absent: Nina Semmelroth, Ethan Wagner, Stan Sveen, Michael Talbot
The commission meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM.
1. Minutes of December 8th were reviewed; no changes were suggested.
2. The commission discussed who should be chair for the 2009 calendar year. Lindstrom suggested that Kroese continue in the role, and Kroese agreed but would be willing to step aside
if somebody else wanted to take the position. Ross agreed to serve as backup again in the case of Kroese’s absence.
The commission then viewed “Green Cities: Leading the Way”, a video prepared by TPT MN and The League of Minnesota Cities.
The commission then began discussing potential ideas for grant proposals. Ideas included:
CFL recycling collection point at city hall
Energy meters, reusable grocery bags, CFL bulbs, or expanding the rebate program
Enrolling in the HourCar program
Battery recycling program, medicine recycling
Miller will continue to compile these ideas until the status of the grant program is determined.
The meeting adjourned at 7:40 pm.
