Minutes of March 9th were approved with no changes. 2. Miller explained the rain barrel grant possibility through the Capitol Region Watershed District. The commission explored options such as raising the price of the barrels or the workshop itself. Goodspeed asked if our current ordinances allowed for rainbarrels and other types of environmentally sound practices such as this. It was suggested that a comprehensive look at all city ordinances be undertaken to see if there are any impediments to encouraging environmentally-friendly practices. The commission agreed to proceed with the grant request and to allow staff and the city council to determine the financial impacts. Keene provided handouts she received from the Sustainable Communities Conference. One of the handouts listed several website resources. Miller updated the commission on a new contact with the Climate Change Corps. The commission was supportive of the new approach, and Goodspeed moved (Keene seconded) that the commission recommend to the council that the city move forward. The motion carried unanimously. Semmelroth suggested that the commission investigate the idea of a house tour of environmentally friendly homes. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
