Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
June 8, 2009
Present: Ron Kroese, Peter Lindstrom, Diane Ross, Nina Semmelroth, Ethan Wagner, Brian Goodspeed, Nina Semmelroth, Justin Miller
Absent: Gretel Keene, Michael Talbot, Stan Sveen
The commission meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM.
Minutes of April 13th were approved with no changes. Commissioners mentioned that they would like to see the following items which were in the minutes remain on future agendas:
Impediments to environmentally friendly activities
Pesticide/herbicide policy in city parks
Dandelion containment/weed control publicity
2. Miller stated that the rain barrel workshop was full and that there was a lengthy waiting list.
Goodspeed offered to promote rain barrels at the July 30th Ice Cream Social. Ross asked if the commission wanted to conduct some sort of game or activity at the Ice Cream Social. Miller
said that he would follow up with the parks department to see if they had any ideas.
Miller presented an initial draft of the carbon footprint analysis that our Climate Change Corps consultant is preparing. Kroese asked that the final draft be emailed to the commission
before the next meeting so they could review it and prepare questions for the consultant. The consultant is to be invited to present his findings at the next commission meeting.
Additional items for future consideration included new water lines at the garden and possible solar energy problems relating to height of trees and houses.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
