Staff Report
Recreation Update- Abernathy reported that the spring/summer program guide is in progress and will be distributed to homes and schools sometime late February into March. Registration
will begin Monday, March 9th. Abernathy also reported that the Couples Yoga class that was held the weekend before Valentines Day went really well and is something that participant’s
wanted to see again. The Falcon Heights/Lauderdale 5K is currently in the works. The program details will be presented to both councils for approval and then Abernathy will be in touch
with Lauderdale on the marketing and registration aspects of the event. The event currently set for Saturday, August 15th.
Public Works Update- Pittman reported that all rinks and warming houses have been closed. With the warm streaks in the weather maintaining good ice has been difficult so the City
has decided to end the season early.
Splash Pad
Abernathy handed out two hand outs from two splash pad companies she had met with regarding their product and costs associated with a splash pad structure. The Commission asked Abernathy
to research the pad in Robbinsdale as well as the pad in St. Anthony regarding the costs of their structures and what problems they have seen or foresee as well as any wear and tear
that has happened since putting in their splash pads. After this research is done the Commission discussed getting bids to possible include in the 2010 budget.
Dogs in the Parks trail
The Commission began discussion on signage for the trial period in which dogs will be allowed in the parks from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Pittman will be researching semi-permanent
signs and report back to the types available. Next month the Commission will discuss the wording for the signs and the rules for the trial period.
Summer Programs- Marketing PR
Abernathy reported to the Commission the locations in which the spring/summer activity guide would be distributed as well as other marketing tools she will be using this summer. Distribution
of the program guides will be to the same places we have distributed to in the past- schools, directly to homes, church, local papers as well as the bulk email system. New this summer
the City has developed a Twitter page. This will get program information to Twitter users who have signed up to received Falcon Heights instant updates.
New Business
Abernathy handed out an updated roster of the Commission and a copy of the Agenda items for the year 2009.
