Abernathy will continue with press releases, emails and flyers for programs in hopes to make some program numbers go up before summer begins. Saturday, May 16th Dan Malone will be back to teach a spring Kids Smart Self Defense class here at City Hall. Currently there are eight enrolled in the class. Abernathy also reported that she is reorganizing the walking club program. Participants who sign up will no longer have to join the Yahoo group in order to get updates or post walking routes. Participants simply sign up trough the City website and they will be added to the list. They can receive walking club emails, a log sheet and a Falcon Heights water bottle. Every so often Abernathy will post challenges or mile goals to the group and have prizes available for those members who qualify. This was done in hopes of making it easier for people to become involved and for Abernathy to maintain. Public Works Update- Pittman reported the signs for the Dogs in the Park Trail run are done and they will be posting them in the next few days. Bench Grant Letter Abernathy gave the Commission the overview of the grant that was provided to the Council when this grant was first pursued. The Commission agreed to keep the current proposed bench locations as well as add a bench in front of City Hall to complete the loop around the City. The Commission discussed approaching local businesses to see if there would be any interest to sponsor or donate money to help the city pay for the benches. Abernathy made corrections to the rough draft letter based on feed back from the Commission. Abernathy will be following up with the grant organizer regarding some specifics of the grant criteria. Abernathy will also follow up with the City Administrator regarding if this grant is even doable if the City does not receive any support from the local businesses.
