Thomas moved motion to approve. Staff Report Recreation Update- Abernathy reported that summer programs are well under way and are running smoothly. Camps coming up this August include Nature Camps, Tennis camps and a two day watercolor workshop for youth. Abernathy also reported that the 2009/10 fall/winter guide would be coming out around the same time of the Ice Cream Social. Events coming up this fall include the Touch-A-Truck/ Fire Department Open House that will be held on Saturday, October 3rd from 11am-2pm at City Hall and the Falcon Heights Day at the Game/Free Soccer Clinic with the Woman’s Gopher soccer team Sunday, October 18th starting at 11:30am. Public Works Update- Pittman updated the Commission on the work being done on the City Hall Parking lot, replacing sidewalk panels and installing new locks at each of the park shelters. Rinks for winter will be as follows: Falcon Heights School: Pleasure ice only, no warming house. Grove Park: Hockey rink and pleasure ice, no warming house Curtiss Field: not change. These changes are due to the recent budget cuts and history of use/visitors at rink sites in previous years. Ice Cream Social/Family 5K Event Abernathy reported that planning for the Ice Cream Social event is well underway and ready to go at the end of this month. Abernathy asked for volunteers for the Ice Cream Social as well as for the Family 5K being held Saturday, August 15th at Community Park. Registrations for the Family 5K are beginning to come in. People can register with either us or the City of Lauderdale. Both cities are working on getting donations from local businesses for race day. Parking was confirmed from the Rose Hill Alliance Church. We will be able to use their parking lot in the event Community Park’s parking lot is used for the race prep or if we need an overflow parking area. Open Gym Abernathy reported to the Commission that if we were to continue the Open Gym program this year at Falcon Heights Elementary School we would have to pay a fee to cover the school districts cost of having a janitor on site. This is due to requirements for a school district staff member to be on site to observe the broiler when the school is being used. This fee for the time period of Open Gym (November- March) would be roughly $840.00. In looking at past revenues from the program and expense of paying gym attendants this program clearly would not make up for this cost. Therefore Abernathy along with Justin Miller, City Administrator are recommended we not hold the open gym program this year with budgets being tight as they already are. Kwong suggested looking at an alternative location that could accommodate the program. He recommended Chelsea Heights School as an alternative. Abernathy will look into this possibility. 7. New Business Bench Grant- More details of the bench grant were discussed and questioned: Open it to families as well as businesses, paver requirements and replacement responsibilities city verses bench sponsor. Abernathy will be contacting a representative from the county on assistance on some of these questions. Discussion will continue as more details/requirements become clear. Next Park Commission meeting will be Monday, September 14 at Falcon Heights City Hall. Adjournment Meeting ended at 8:00pm Minutes respectfully submitted by Lisa Abernathy.
