JANUARY 14, 2002- MEETING MINUTES
Members Present: James Evans, Denise Dean, Robert Long-City Council Rep,
Bill Maertz- Staff Liason, Chuck Long- President, Maureen Blustein, Secretary
Members Not Present: Donna Daykin, John Rothlisberger, David Duckler
CURTIS FIELD: Engineer borings indicate the water table is lower than first thought-may be a dry pond in August. Options: leave sediment and put in drain tile system. Seek
system to withstand “10 year storms”. This project is tied to the North Home Shopping Center redevelopment.Curtis Field play equipment is not handicap accessible. Possibly remove pea
rock and put in wood mulch. Consider putting in wheel chair accessible table.
FOLWELL,GARDEN & LINDIG PARKS: Folwell most likely to be used-develop?
GROVE PARK: The playground equipment rep came out. Remove/move- swing set?
COMMUNITY PARK: The Lions Club is donating $6500 toward the removal and replacement of the shelter located in the playground equipment area. Cement contractors
to remove the old shelter. Time frame anticipated for shelter project completion is between Apr-June 2002. Make park more wheel chair accessible- link to Ag path. Need a wheel chair
accessible table here and at each City park.
DEAD OF WINTER EVENT: February 17, 2002. Considering adding new event- dog sled rides. Bill is checking on a provider in Wisconsin regarding availability and cost. To
Volunteer at this event, contact Diane Meyer.
ROSEVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER PROJECT: Bill talked to Bob Biershied of
the Roseville Parks & Rec to explore possible Falcon Heights participation if Roseville
decides to go ahead with this project.
TREES: Deb Jones, with the City of Falcon Heights, is implementing a computer program that will record size & type of all City trees. High School Student needing Community Service
credit will be solicited to measure the diameter of the trees. The information will be recorded on a computer program that will “Grow the Trees”, thus trees will only need to be measured
once.
COMMUNITY INTEREST SURVEY: last official survey of residents' interests and their comments/ suggestions for use of parks was done in 1989-get bids for new survey.
Thank you to the Lions Club for their generous donation toward the new shelter at Community Park.
