Miller, Finance Director Roland Olson, John Commers Strong Towns Pilot Project Proposal Jon Commers, co-founder of Strong Towns, presented his ideas on how to engage citizens in the
more routine matters of providing public services. Ideas presented by the city council included senior services, child wellness, integrating immigrant populations, capital repairs (such
as tennis and basketball court repairs), and public facility maintenance. Commers stated that this type of pilot project may be attractive for foundation or grant opportunities. The
council agreed that continuing to pursue the program was important and directed staff and Commers to refine the plan and bring it back to the council at a later date. Draft 2011 General
Fund Budget Miller began by summarizing the report provided in the council packet and also addressed what? was not included in the draft budget. Council had questions about state funding
situations and the impact on this levy to homeowners. Council also directed staff to look at the impact of adding a second summer public works laborer and additional newsletters to the
budget. Staff will refine the budget and will bring it back to the council at the September 8th meeting for preliminary levy adoption. The workshop concluded at 8:30 p.m. Respectfully
