At our September 13, 2010 meeting Miller handed out the 5 year CIP. Miller asked that the Commission discuss future improvements of the park. The reconstruct of the tennis court was reexamined. The total reconstruct cost would be $120k. USTA grant will share the cost but require higher specifications than originally projected. The city would be responsible for $80,000 for reconstruction costs that includes new court, nets, chain link fence and lighting. This amount would effectively deplete the Parks Capital Improvement Funds. The commission was asked to consider all areas of improvement in the parks and was given a list of the parks. As homework, Tesser requested each commissioner visit the parks and complete the needs assessment looking at improvements that should be done including practical uses and facility updates. The commissioners came up with the following improvements: • New lighting poles- CP and CF • Backstop chain link – CP • Benches – CP • Exercise stations updated- CP • Reconcrete around park building- CP • Fill sandbox- CP • Replace swing chains- CP • Replace springy seats- CP • New flooring in building- CP • Adjustable basketball hoops- CP • Buy a popcorn machine • Horseshoe course at a park • Amphitheatre at a park • Sculpture garden at a park • Water splash pad- CP • Soccer team/spectator benches • Van for participant travel (kids field trips, sports-competition with other cities, use of other parks facilities, to and from parks CP, CF, FHE, L) • New Tennis Courts (including fence, lighting poles, tennis bang board) (CP- Community Park, CF- Curtiss Field, FHE- Falcon Heights Elementary, L- Lauderdale) The commission also provided maintenance concerns: • Painting lot lines in parking lot- CF • Fix drinking fountain- CF • Landscape- CP, CF • Comply with legal requirements of pea rocks at playgrounds The commission also discussed and recommended supply updating: • Transportable soccer nets • New soccer balls, tennis balls, basketballs • New TKD pads and mats 8.
