Environment Commission
Meeting Minutes
May 9, 2011
Present: Peter Lindstrom, Brian Goodspeed, Diane Ross, Gretel Keene, Justin Miller
Absent: Ethan Wagner, Nina Semmelroth, Rebecca Montgomery, Stan Sveen,
1. Minutes of the April 11th meeting were reviewed with no suggested changes.
2. Miller presented the “buy local” punch card idea that will encourage residents to patronize
local establishments. This program will meet one of the requirements under the Green
Step Cities project. Commissioners recommended various establishments to add to the
card, including the University of Minnesota meat and dairy stores.
3. Miller updated the commission on the U of MN law student proposal on Municipal
Renewable Energy Financing options. The commission asked what the next steps would
be, and Miller indicated that the city council would most likely be discussing next steps at
their June goal setting workshop.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 pm.
