D7:INU'CES UT TIIE REGULAR MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL, <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />JANUARY 12, 2005 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the City <br />Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 12th day of <br />January, 2005 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at 515 <br />Little Canada Road in said City. <br />Mayor Bill Blesener called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and the <br />following members of the City Council were present at roll call: <br />CITY COUNCIL: Mayor Mr. Bill Blesener <br />Council Member Mr. Jim L,aValle <br />Council Member Mr. Ricl< Montour <br />Council Member Ms. Barbara Allan <br />Council Member Mr. John Keis <br />ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Mr. Joel R. Hanson <br />City Attorney Mr. Tom Sweeney <br />City Clerk Ms. I{athy Glanzer <br />Mayor Blesener recognized former Mayor Michael 1. Fahey for his service <br />to the City for 6 years as a Council Member and 16 years as Mayor. He <br />noted the considerable amount of growth that occurred in Little Canada <br />during Mayor Fahey's tenure, and noted that the City has moved from a <br />growth environment to a maintenance and redevelopment environment. <br />I-Ie acknowledged that the current Council is ready, willing, and able to <br />handle the challenge. <br />Mayor Blesener noted that as a result of his election to the position of <br />Mayor, there was a vacancy on the City Council fa' the remaining two <br />years of his Council term. Blesener explained that the Council had two <br />options for filling die position, either via a special election or appointment <br />process. The Council chose the appointment process, advertised the <br />vacancy, and accepted applications. Six people submitted applications <br />which were reviewed by the Council with a decision to interview fow' of <br />the candidates. Blesener indicated that all six applicants were good <br />candidates for the position, with fow~ being very good. However, he felt <br />that one candidate stood out, that being John Keis. Blesener noted that <br />Keis is a 24 year resident of the City, has served for 13 years on the City's <br />Planning Commission, 5 years as Chair. Keis also served for many years <br />on the Little Canada Recreation Association, 6 of which as LC,RA <br />President I{eis has also dedicated many years to youth coaching. Mayor <br />Blesener noted that John Keis was appointed to fill the Council vacancy <br />by a unanimous vote of the Council. <br />
