The
video server that was specified was a Synology RackStation RS10613xs+ with 10 Seagate 6TB enterprise drives, rack rails,
and 16 GB RAM upgrade. I had found pricing of $12,053 for that configuration through SimplyNAS, compared to bids of
$13,565 from Alpha Video and $13,601 from AVI.
Synology introduced new models of their RackStation servers in early July. The RackStation RS10613xs+ has been
discontinued. I received quotes from SimplyNAS for a similar configuration with the updated server. The RackStation
RS18016xs+ has a higher base price, but it also has 3 year newer technology and a capacity for 12 drives instead of 10
drives.
RackStation RS18016xs+
10 Seagate enterprise class 6 TB drives
Rack rails
Two 8 GB RAM modules
$12499.00
There was another quote that was the same configuration but for the addition of two more 6 TB drives for $13,227.
Since the drives can be added at a later time, I suggest we wait until we need the extra capacity.
I checked online with a few more vendors but the quote from SimplyNAS was the lowest I found. I also have positive
experience with this company from the purchase of a smaller Synology NAS for my home system in 2012.
Thanks,
Vanessa
Vanessa Van Alstine
Cable Television Producer
City of Little Canada
1
