Implementation
Realizing Maplewood's vision for parks and
recreation will take time, dedication, and
additional funding. The City already invests
significantly in parks and recreation for both
new capital projects and ongoing operations
and maintenance. Funding for the system
comes from a variety of sources including
allocation from the general fund, grants,
partnerships, and volunteers. Adequately
allocating financial resources for park
system reinvestment and reinvention will be
essential to realizing plan recommendations.
Improvements will not occur overnight, but
will be phased over time, dependent on
available funding and staff time.
If an additional $100 were available for City
parks, preserves, trails, and recreation
facilities, how respondent households would
allocate the funds
Improve existing neighborhood &
community parks $31
Other
Improve / \\ $3
existing
preserves
$11
Develop new
preserves, trails
& recreation
areas in forest
preserves
$10
Development
fa
new
facilities
$15
Acquisition of open
space adjacent to
Maplewoocl Nature
Center
Source: 2014 Parks & Recreation Citizen Survey
ss
Benefits of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan
Road map for system revitalization
Defensible rationale for decision-making
/y Strategic resource allocation (budgeting
and staffing)
Fosters strong partnerships
Safe and welcoming parks
An updated recreation facility mix
A more connected city
Continued access to nature
More relevant programs
Integration of the arts into the park
v system
er Long-term economic sustainability
For More Information
Please contact the Maplewood Parks Recreation Department
651.249.2120 "t PI !EvO O D
=
PARKS & 1tPr \i ION
System Master Plan Executive Summary 19
