LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
Telephone: (651) 766-4029 / Fax: (651) 766-4048
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
October 27, 2015
Parks and Recreation Commission Members:
JIM MORELAN, Director
(651) 766-4045
KATIE McGINNITY, Recreation Supervisor
(651) 766-4042
DON BOWMAN, Recreation Coordinator
(651) 766-4041
DEREK ANDERSON, Park Maintenance Supervisor
(651) 766-4056
The City's Park Acquisition Fund #456 that is funded by collection of a "Park Dedication Fee" currently has a balance of
$962,000. This fee is collected on any new construction in the City, and has been earmarked for purchase of park
property. It has been quite a few years since the City has made any changes to this fee.
I recently took part in a metro wide survey of fees of other cities and see that we are quite a bit lower than the average
for residential construction with our fee of $2600 per unit. Our fee is $1950 per unit on buildings with 9 or more units.
The average from the survey is $3911 per unit.
For commercial development we use a percentage (10% of the land or 5% of the fair market value [at the City's option]),
so I don't think that needs adjustment as it automatically keeps up with inflation.
Attached are the survey results. I have put this on your November agenda for your consideration and possible
recommendation to the City Council for a fee change.
Parks and Recreation Director
City of Little Canada
(651) 766-4045 - office
(651) 766-4048 - fax
