Joel Hanson
From: lelfering@elferingeng.com
Sent: Wednesday, October 28, 2015 4:11 PM
To: Joel Hanson
Subject: FW: Little Canada B2 Median - Quick Kurb
Attachments: Plan Sheet 1.pdf; LC B2 Median Bid Revised.pdf; REVISED PLAN OPTION.PDF;
Plan Sheet 2.pdf
Joel,
Plan sheet 1 attached is what I sent over to Dave for the layout of the Qwick Kurb to make sure the design would meet
FRA requirements. I talked to him on the phone and he said he had been traveling all day and did see it on his phone,
but needs to look at it on a bigger screen to really review it. Based on our discussion as long as we have 60 feet of the
Qwick Kurb behind the crossing arm we should be fine. I told him we needed an answer for the meeting tonight and he
said he would try to look at it this afternoon. The cost without labor for the Qwick Kurb will be about $10,000. I know I
calculated under that at our meeting with him and I did get an email from him that it might cost a little more to put the
"keep right" symbol on the first delineator, but I wouldn't think it would be much more.
I also took a look at what might be a better striping layout for that area because of the medians, Plan Sheet 2. I would
guess getting the old striping ground off and the new striping down will cost about $2,000. That should probably be
done with either median option. I did not include the striping in what I sent over to Dave and wanted to see if he
commented on the need for restriping or not.
Uldis never came through with a price, but Schifsky did revise his number based on only install the new median curb and
filling the median with gravel. His cost for that came down to $49,930 and I have included the quote he sent over along
with the revised plan sheet I sent him.
In rough numbers we are looking at $10,000 (plus labor) vs. $50,000. The cost of the striping would be on top of bot
and would be about the same with either option.
Lee Elfering
Elfering & Associates
10062 Flanders Court NE
Blaine, MN 55449
Phone: 763-780-0450
Fax: 763-780-0452
lelfering@elferingeng.com
23
