Hanson
Attached is a draft of an Employee/Volunteer Recognition Policy for your consideration. In
doing some recent research on other topics, staff came across some information from the State
Auditor's Office and the League of Minnesota Cities that indicates we should have a written
policy governing our recognition activities to ensure they meet the criteria of`public purpose"
expenditure. To that end, we found a policy from the City of Cloquet that seemed to best fit our
circumstances. We made some minor modifications to it and are now presenting it to you for
your consideration. You will note there are some programs we do not currently offer. They
have been included here to give you a feel for the possible scope of this type of document.
Staff is looking for your feedback regarding this document or any modifications you would like
to make. Ideally, we would have a policy in place before year end.
