MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
SEPTEMBER 10, 2003
the site. The townoffice concept is proposed as two stories in height with
each unit consisting of approximately 2,000 square feet.
LaValle pointed out that parking has become a huge issue in the area of
the Market Place Shopping Center, and indicated that the developer should
be informed that the development will have to have adequate parking.
Fahey pointed out that while the Council's preference appears to be the
townoffice concept, which should in no way be construed as approval of a
14-unit townoffice development.
Anderson asked George Sherman's feelings relative to the marketability of
the townoffice proposal. The City Administrator indicated that Sherman
contemplated a townoffice development on this site. The Administrator
indicated that while Sherman will be proceeding with the development of
some office complexes south along Rice Street, it is felt that the
townoffice concept will not compete with what Sherman is proposing.
Montour expressed some concern with the townoffice market, indicating
that it does not appear the Edgewater or the Tacheny projects are full. The
City Administrator indicated that it was his understanding that all the units
in those two projects have been sold. Blesener suggested that there would
be some synergy at work in having this type of development in close
proximity.
2 A.M. BAR LaValle indicated that the Cities of St. Paul, Roseville, and Maplewood
CLOSING have approved 2 a.m. bar' closings, and two of the bar owners in the City
have requested that Little Canada consider doing the same.
Fahey stated that he did not view these cities adopting the 2 a.m. closing
time as an overwhelming tide, and saw no reason to change the bar closing
time. Blesener suggested that if the bar owners are interested staying open
until 2 a.m., they should submit a written request asking for Council
consideration of the issue. Anderson also suggested that the bar owners
provide information documenting that they are losing money by not being
allowed to stay open until 2 a.m.
Fahey stated that he still favored taking the wait and see approach on this
matter to see if there is a compelling business justification or need for the
City to allow bars to remain open until 2 a.m.
ADJOURN Mr. LaValle introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2003-9-2I0 - AD.IOURNING
