MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />~ ugust 7, 2003 <br />Gray recommended continuing discussions with the Little Canada Fire Department to explore <br />the idea of a memorial trail featuring beaches in honor of past fire chiefs. <br />Motion seconded by Steinert. <br />Motion carried 5 - 0. <br />RONDEAU Sanders stated that one of the contractors for the play structure at Rondeau resubmitted a lower <br />PARK price so he had all of the contractors re-bid the project. Earl F. Anderson's bid came in at <br />$48,587 versus the original $52,276 they had bid resulting in a savings to the city. <br />ICE CREAM Steinert stated that there was a good turnout for the Ice Cream Social held on July 31 at <br />SOCIAL Spooner Park and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Most "thank yous" have already been sent to <br />those involved in the event. Steinert will hand deliver a thank you Co the fire department and the <br />A&W Root Beer. Many other local businesses also helped by distributing flyers to their <br />customers. The Director stated that a thank you article will also be placed in the next issue of <br />the city newsletter. He received positive feedback on the event as well. <br />The Commission thanked Steinert for the excellent job he did coordinating this year's event. <br />DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following items: <br />?PORT <br />• Fall youth registration flyers were given to the Commission for their review. Registration <br />has already been held for Soccer Clinic, Volleyball, and Soccer League. <br />• The $100,000 matching grant that we had applied for this spring was received from the <br />DNR for two trail connections. <br />• AduIC fall softball starts next week. Wednesday night men's is full. There are still openings <br />in Tuesday and Thursday men's. The women's league may not be successful again this year <br />since there is only one team that has registered so far. <br />• Tennis lessons, golf lessons, and adventures in the park had to be cancelled this year due to <br />lack of regisU~ants. However, day camp was a success with 40+ kids registering for each <br />one-week session. (8 sessions total) This is due in part to the change from ahalf-day camp <br />to a full-day camp. <br />• Archery lessons were held in July and were also successful. Pechman suggested having <br />these lessons offered at night to make it more convenient for those parents who work. <br />• The Coaches' Appreciation Party is scheduled August 21 at Spooner Park to thank our <br />volunteer coaches.
