Blaine park fees increasing for many developers <br />Page 2 of 5 <br />At its Dec. 17 meeting, the Blaine City Council unanimously approved 2016 park <br />dedication fees. This money is used for any park improvement projects, ranging from <br />updating playgrounds to purchasing land and developing the 38 -acre Lexington <br />Athletic Complex. <br />-1O ftl[K <br />ro JO a, U <br />Wi-Fi Thermostat Rebate. <br />For the residential fee revenue, 20 percent goes to the city's trail development and <br />open space preservation fund while 100 percent of revenue that comes from <br />commercial and industrial developers is dedicated for city parks. <br />The residential fee was $3,404 per unit in 2015 and will be bumped up 10 percent to <br />$3,744 per unit. The industrial fee of $5,803 per acre in 2015 will be increased 5 percent <br />to $6,093 per acre in 2016. The commercial park dedication fee will remain at $8,704 <br />per acre, <br />In October, Blaine's public services manager Bob Therres surveyed the communities of <br />Bloomington, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, Coon Rapids, Eden Prairie, Inver Grove Heigh. <br />Maple Grove, New Brighton, Plymouth, Roseville, Shakopee and Woodbury and found <br />that the average residential park dedication fee was $4,299 per unit. <br />Blaine also received information from 11 of these communities, minus Bloomington and <br />Roseville, for commercial park dedication fees and found the average to be $8,466 per <br />acre.
