Blaine park fees increasing for many developers
Parks plans
The council in 2014 also adopted a plan to set aside $200,000 a year over five years for
improvements to neighborhood parks. The funding comes from interest earned in the
city's capital improvement fund.
"It really helps fix up some of these older parks," Herbst said.
Blaine is looking at having its first ever dog park at Aquatore Park where dogs could
roam freely in dedicated areas.
Other 2016 projects include replacing a playground at Cloverleaf Park, replacing
shelters at Little League Park and Mary Elizabeth Park, removing an old shelter at
Laddie Lake Park, re -striping the Miracle League field at the Blaine Baseball Complex
and adding a basketball hoop at Eastside Park.
Replacing old playgrounds will be a priority in 2017 and 2018 with the following parks
tentatively scheduled for new equipment: Carrara East, Centennial Green, Happy Acres,
Mary Elizabeth, Meadowbrook, Radisson Woods and Swan. The city also is looking at
putting in either a 20 foot, by 20 foot shelter or a playground at North Oaks West Park
in 2017.
The mayor likes that the city is also making it a priority to add benches along trails and
in parks whenever possible and that these make great projects for Boy Scouts working
on obtaining their Eagle Scout Award.
"I think one of the things we forget about a lot is older people when they walk through
our parks or trails like a bench every once in a while," Ryan said. "I think it's really neat
we're looking at that."
erie.hagen@ecm-inc.corn
Advertising Informationj Subscribe I Newsstand Locations I E-Editionj Links I Contact Us
Copyright 02016 ECM Publishers, Inc. • All Rights Reserved
5
http://abenewspapers.com/2016/01/10/blaine-park-fees-increasing-for-many-developers/ 1/11/2016
