MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />FEBRUARY 22, 2016 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the City <br />Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 22nd day of <br />February, 2016 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at 515 <br />Little Canada Road in said City. <br />Mayor John Keis called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the <br />following members of the City Council were present at roll call: <br />CITY COUNCIL: Mayor Mr. John Keis <br />Council Member Mr. Tom Fischer <br />Council Member Mr. Mike McGraw <br />Council Member <br />Council Member <br />ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator <br />City Attorney <br />Ramsey Cty Deputy Mgr. <br />Ramsey Cty Hist. Hanson <br />Mr. Chad Lemmons <br />Ms. Heather Worthington <br />Mr. Chad Roberts <br />Ms. Heidi Heller <br />The purpose of this evening's meeting is for city staff to provide <br />information updates to the City Council. <br />RENAMING Heather Worthington, a Ramsey County Deputy Manager stated that <br />SAVAGE LAKE approximately two years ago, a Little Canada resident submitted a petition <br />to Rainsey County requesting that Savage Lake be renamed. She stated <br />she has done the research for this request, and the Ramsey County Board <br />of Commissioners recently discussed it and is willing to consider this <br />request, subject to the agreement of the Little Canada City Council. The <br />Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Commissioner would <br />ultimately approve the change and what the name is. <br />Chad Roberts, Executive Director of the Ramsey County Historical <br />Society stated that he researched why it was named Savage Lake, to <br />determine if it was named after a family or tribe of Indians. He stated that <br />it is clear that the fur traders came to the area and did a lot of trading with <br />Indians, and the lake was not named after a family, tribe or specific event. <br />He noted that "savage" is a very racist term, and he is supportive of the <br />
