how mail delivery will be handled, project safety concerns, and contact information (see recent
Centerville Road notice attached). Depending on the nature and duration of the project,
supplemental information will be distributed to address timing updates, schedule changes, or
special issues.

Another key component is the project inspector being available for questions or comments that
arise during construction. In my opinion, this has been an area where Elfering & Associates has
excelled.

So why I described this system as adequate, there are always opportunities to improve. Staff is
open to any suggestions that you may have to modify current practice.

Electronic Message Board:

To date, the City had made periodic use of the Fire Department’s electronic message board.
This could be an area where improvements could be made, assuming the Fire Department can
accommodate our desires. Or, we could look at installing one at City Hall. From my standpoint,
we should talk about the need for increased utilization and the Fire Department’s ability to
accommodate us before adding another sign.

Other:

Other ideas or suggestions can also be vetted at this workshop. One I recently became aware of
is the Citizen’s Academy Shoreview is putting on. This consists of a six 2 ½ hours sessions
designed to introduce citizens to various city services such as police, fire, public works,
community development, parks & recreation, and administration/finance. They limited
participation to 20 people on a first come/first served basis. Shoreview believes this type of
program can help create “cheerleaders” for the City and may become a good source of
applications for commissions or even future council members.

http://www.shoreviewmn.gov/government/citizens-leadership-academy
http://www.shoreviewmn.gov/home/showdocument?id=7391
