MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP
MAY 11, 2016
like the city-wide garage sale. Discussion ensued regarding the City's
existing website and creating a new city Facebook page.
The City Council agreed to adjourn the Workshop at 7:28pm, and resume
after the City Council meeting.
The Workshop was resumed at 8:22pm.
Keis stated that there is a list of communications items in the staff report
and asked where to start to get something done inexpensively and in a
relatively quick timeframe.
Keis stated that the City newsletter is well done and many people like it.
The City Council agreed that it is a good document and they know people
read it. McGraw stated that for the older generation, the paper format of
the newsletter is still important. The City Council agreed that no changes
are needed for the newsletter.
The City Administrator stated that the electronic bulletin board monitor in
lobby is now working, and Vanessa is still working on content. He stated
that what shows on the monitor is what is played on Channel 16 when
there are no shows on, but most of those slides are old and not the kind of
information that was envisioned for this. He stated that there is another
system called Tightrope Carousel which could be used to post
information, such as the conference room schedule or other specific
events. The City Council agreed that City Staff should move forward with
the purchase and installation of the Tightrope Carousel equipment.
Keis asked about communications for public improvement projects. The
City Administrator stated that residents on the streets where projects are
being done receive notices on their door, usually weekly, or more often if
needed. He explained that either Public Works or Elfering & Associates
staff deliver the notices door to door. The City Council agreed that no
changes are needed for public improvement communications.
Torkelson suggested that various social media and website domain naives
relating in any way to the City of Little Canada, should be registered by
the City. The City Administrator stated that if Councilmember Torkelson
creates a list of the sites to register, City Staff will do what is needed.
The City Council agreed that it is time to create a City Facebook page.
Keis stated that the next step is for City Staff draft a step by step plan for
what is necessary to create a City Facebook page. He stated a social
media policy, staff plan, and cost plan will be needed.
