STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Jessica Jagoe, Code Enforcement/Planning

DATE: May 20, 2016

RE: Nuisance Abatements
64 County Road C West
At the beginning of May, city staff started to receive several complaints regarding junk and debris that had
been tossed out into the yard and driveway of 64 County Road C West. An inspection was conducted and staff
verified that garbage and furniture were scattered throughtout the property. This property is owned by Wells
Fargo Home Mortgage. Staff immediately made contact with their Property Preservation Department. Wells
Fargo has indicated that they cannot initiate any clean-up efforts because the property is occupied and they do
not have full possession of the property yet.
On May 10th an Abatement Notice was posted on the property and mailed to both Wells Fargo and John
Thompson (prior utility billing account holder before Wells Fargo took over the account). The notice had a
deadline to correct the nuisance violations that exist by Friday, May 20th. City staff conducted an inspection
today and no efforts have been made to remove any of the garbage, junk, or debris. Therefore, this property
is still in violation of Maintaining a Public Nuisance (see attached photos).
As a result, City staff is requesting City Council authorize staff to proceed with the abatement action at 64
County Road C West.

145 Lake Street E., 2936 Rice Street, and 2944 Rice Street
On May 16th an abatement notice was mailed to the property owners of the above three properties requesting
the grass nuisance violation that exists be corrected by May 25th in order to avoid abatement of the violation.
Staff will complete an inspection on May 25th and update the Council at the meeting as to whether further
abatement action is needed.
