STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: May 20, 2016

RE: 2884 Centerville Road Power Pole Issue

The owner of 2884 Centerville Road would like us to help correct a current problem with truck turning
movements in to his driveway. The existing power pole is very close to the driveway as indicated on
the attached aerial. The placement of the new pole is also appearing to be a problem.

There may be three options to solve this issue. They are:
• Bring the service to the house and industrial building in underground. This would allow the
pole to be moved farther south and provide the trucks with more turning radius. This will
likely be the most expensive option given underground charges and Xcel likely charging to
move the pole again.
• Move the service lines to the pole behind our salt storage building. This pole could be
removed if this option isn’t pursued. If it is utilized, we may see tree trimming in the
evergreens that screen the salt storage facility.
• Allow the driveway to encroach on to the park property by a few feet to expand the turning
radius to the north. This would be the least costly, but would need documentation by
agreement due to potential for creating title issues in the future.

Staff is attempting to obtain cost estimates to underground the service. We will have update
information for your consideration at Wednesday’s meeting.
