TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Director

DATE: September 14, 2016

RE: City Hall and Fire Station Landscaping Quotes

The City Council approved landscaping updates for City Hall and the Fire Station earlier this summer.
Following the approval there were some concerns with long-term maintenance of the specified plant
material at the Fire Station. After discussions with the Fire Department it was decided to alter the plan
a bit to provide plants that are easier to maintain in the long term.

Six companies were contacted to provide quotes. Two quotes were received.

City Hall Fire Station Total
JMW Lawn and Landscape: $8,860 $10,124 $18,984

Greenscape Companies: $17,245 $22,750 $39,995

The City budgeted $12,500 for City Hall and $15,000 for the Fire Station so the JMW Lawn and
Landscape quote is within the budget. The total may change once exact quantities of plants are known
for the Fire Station, but it shouldn’t vary much either way. JMW has done work for the City in the
past, including the retaining wall and plants around the electronic monument sign at the Fire Station.

Based on the quotes received staff recommends awarding JMW Lawn and Landscape the City Hall and
Fire Station landscaping project. The work will be completed as soon as possible this year.

7
