STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Director

DATE: October 21, 2016

RE: No Overnight Parking on Greenbrier Street

Ontario Road off of County Road D, Aspen Circle, and Thunder Bay Road have all requested no
overnight parking year round on their streets due to problems caused by cars from the apartment
complex across County Road D parking on the streets for long periods of time. To date, staff has
not heard of any continuing problems on any of these streets since they have been posted as no
overnight parking.
A resident from Greenbrier Street has requested a similar no overnight parking restriction for the
section of Greenbrier that runs from County Road D south to the power lines for the same reasons
the other streets made the requests.
A survey was sent to the ten affected properties. There were six responses. Five were in favor of
no overnight parking and one was not in favor. One of the in favor responses asked if residents
could have a hanging tag of some sort so they could park on the street at any time even though it
was a no overnight parking zone.
Staff recommends installing, No Parking 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., signs on Greenbrier Street from
County Road D south to the power line easement. Residents of the street are always welcome to
obtain a parking permit for special occasions. If approved, a notice of the change will be sent to all
affected residents prior to the signs being installed.
