Little Canada Fire Department
Memo
To: Joel Hanson: City Administrator
From: Don Smiley: Fire Chief
Date: February 16, 2017

Joel, here is a summary of the new truck proposal. The committee has been working on
this process since the spring of 2016. We have spent countless hours working on this
specification and I believe we have come up with a great solution for the fire department and
the city.
Attached is the truck pricing and discount breakdowns. As per your recommendation our
best option is to pay the contract in full at the time of contract signing.
The apparatus build time is roughly 9 months from time of contract signing.
This truck will be purchased thru the Houston Galveston consortium. The fee assessed by
the consortium is included in the pricing from Pierce.
Also attached is a detailed list of loose equipment that we will need to equip this new
vehicle. Most all of the equipment on the truck that we are replacing is also 23 years old and
is in need of replacement.
The only real unknown at this point is the cost of the tool and equipment mounting and
supplies done by the dealer once the truck is finished. We anticipate this cost to be a
maximum of $3,500.
Here is summary of all the costs:
New truck with discounts $638,786.00
Truck loose equipment $ 60,000.00
Loose equipment brackets and mounting $3,500.00
Total cost $702,286.00
The fire department is recommending this truck purchase along with the additions of the
loose equipment and the tool brackets and mounting.
Respectfully,
Don Smiley, Fire Chief
