STAFF REPORT

TO: Mayor Keis and Members of City Council

FROM: Heidi Heller, City Clerk

DATE: February 17, 2017

RE: Workshop – Discussion about Code Amendments to Allow Poultry (Livestock)

At the January 25, 2017 City Council meeting, a group of residents approached the City Council
and asked that the discussion to allow chickens be revisited by the City. This group had been
working with Councilmember Torkelson, and have done quite a bit of community outreach on
this topic. The Council chose to hold a workshop and invite the community members to present
their information and request to the Council and have another discussion on this topic. Attached
is information and emails that were sent from the Council and resident Amanda Guitierrez, along
with information from Mark Nagel on what Elko/New Market has adopted.
