TO: Parks & Recreation Commission

FROM: Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager

DATE: May 5, 2017

RE: Movie in the Park

Staff is interested in hosting a “Movie in the Park” night at the Spooner Park band shell. Staff is
currently looking into pricing and options for a date. Some initial quotes are ranging between
$1400-$2000. In talking with other cities, they had success hosting the movie on a Thursday
night and suggested to offer concessions. Staff is looking for recommendations from the
commission on if the “Movie in the Park” should be pursued, if they have any recommendations
on what night of the week to offer the movie, and whether or not you think concessions should
be offered.

UPDATE:

At the May 9, 2017 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, the Commission agreed that
staff should move forward with offering two nights of a “Movie in the Park”. Two nights will
allow for better feedback from the community. The dates of the movie nights are still to be
determined. Staff would like to offer these movies in the later part of the summer due to the
sunset time which dictates when the movie can start, and it will allow time for advertising in the
newsletter and other varies sources. Staff is looking for Council to approve offering two nights
of a “Movie in the Park” with a proposed amount to not exceed $4,000.
25
