NORTHWEST ASSOCIATED CONSULTANTS, INC.
__________________________________________________________________
4150 Olson Memorial Highway, Ste. 320, Golden Valley, MN 55422
Telephone: 763.957.1100 Website: www.nacplanning.com

MEMORANDUM

TO: Little Canada Mayor and City Council
Little Canada Planning Commission

FROM: Stephen Grittman

DATE: May 19, 2017

RE: Little Canada – Comprehensive Plan Issues and Goals

FILE NO: 758.20

Attached is summary of the issues discussions held over the past week or two, and a
copy of the various Land Use Goals and Policies from the current (2030)
Comprehensive Plan. At the upcoming workshop on May 24, we would like to work
through the issues discussion, mostly to test if any of the ideas or discussion points are
“out of bounds”, as well as consider anything in these topic areas that would warrant
supplemental items.

With regard to the 2030 Goals and Policies, it would be my objective to scroll through
the list and consider whether any of these are (1) still valid; (2) need to be removed; or
(3) would benefit from additional clarity or refinement. Many of them are, admittedly,
somewhat “Mom and apple pie” statements, but it is useful to think through the items
and imagine if they raise any potential red flags.

We are not looking to finalize these items at this time, since we have not had the
opportunity to consider much interactive community feedback. However, this gives us a
good solid base to work with, and will help form a range of discussion as we narrow the
list of issues for the project.

pc: Heidi Heller
Jessica Jagoe
Steve Westerhaus
Lee Elfering
