MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />May 9, 2017 <br />SURVEY UPDATE: <br />PUBLIC ACCESS <br />ON SAVAGE LAKE <br /> <br /> <br />Rockne Waite was present to discuss the Veteran’s Memorial Park <br />Dedication on June 14th at 5:00pm and its future plans. He announced that <br />the dedication would include a World War II Plane flyover, weather <br />permitting. He also explained the Committee was working to create a <br />viewing platform on the shore of the lake. Waite stated he was looking for <br />ways to utilize volunteers to build the platform. He explained the project <br />had begun in December 2012 and now the Park was almost complete, but <br />he and the Committee would like to have the right to make updates and <br />changes to the park in the future. Waite highlighted the uniqueness of a <br />park like the Veterans Memorial Park, explaining its quiet and tranquil <br />atmosphere. He also asked if it would be possible to create a plaque of <br />some kind to commemorate a local Eagle Scout for his work on the <br />pergola. Waite updated the Commission on continuing efforts within the <br />park and noted the sprinklers, flowers, and sod were still being finished. <br /> <br />Waite also asked the Commission if the Gilbertson Field plaque had been <br />replaced after it had been misspelled, and later stolen. Chair Miller noted <br />the Recreation Supervisor had been working to replace the plaque. Chair <br />Miller thanked Waite and the Committee for his work on the Veteran’s <br />Memorial Park and his continued effort on the project. <br /> <br /> <br /> The City Administrator reported there had been a total of 83 survey <br />responses. He explained there were 56 online responses and 27 hardcopy <br />responses. <br /> <br /> Of the 27 mailed in surveys, 7 respondents abut the lake. All 7 of the <br />mailed in responses indicated they were not in favor of the access. Of the <br />remaining 20 mailed in responses, six were in favor of the access, 13 <br />opposed the access, and 1 didn’t care as long as it wouldn’t cost him/her <br />money. <br /> <br /> Of the 56 online responses, 10 abut the lake. Of the 10 responses 3 were in <br />favor of the access, and 7 were opposed to the access. Of the remaining 46 <br />responses 21 were in favor of the access and 25 were opposed to the <br />access. <br /> <br /> The City Administrator stated that overall 30 respondents (36%) <br />were in favor of the access, 52 respondents (63%) were opposed, and 1 <br />respondent (1%) didn’t care. <br /> <br /> The City Administrator reported on question two, which asked if the <br />respondent or their acquaintances would make use of the access.
