MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />May 9, 2017 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported he was interested in hosting a <br />movie in the Spooner Park band shell later this summer. He explained he <br />would like to host the event twice this year, and he thought Thursday <br />nights would be best. The Community Services Manager requested <br />approval to spend up to $4000 for the two movie nights. He stated the cost <br />included renting the equipment and buying the rights to show the movie. <br />The Community Services Manager explained he would like to rent the <br />equipment out to see how the event worked, and if it was a success the <br />City could purchase their own equipment. He thought it would be best to <br />have one movie in June and another in late August. Horwath suggested <br />being aware of when the sun sets, because the movie can’t begin until the <br />sun goes down. Horwath made a motion to recommend the Council <br />approve spending up to $4000 ono two movie in the park events this <br />summer. Darling seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously <br />approved. <br /> <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the horseshoe pit at Nadeau <br />Park would need to be removed for placement of the rainwater garden. He <br />planned to not replace the horseshoe pit unless residents came forward <br />requesting it be put back in. The Community Services Manager explained <br />there would be enough room to replace it, if needed, and the cost would be <br />minimal. Horwath made a motion to remove the horseshoe pit. <br />Schletty seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously <br />approved. <br /> <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the City Wide garage Sale <br />Registration would close May 10th, and there is no cost to register. He <br />noted about 55 residents had registered so far. The Community Services <br />Manager stated the sales would be promoted and shared through a flyer <br />and social media. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported Public Works is replacing all <br />the wood on the three wooden bridges in Gervais Mill Park. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported the next Market Place <br />Morning Talk would be on Tai Chi on May 10, 2017 at 9:30am. <br /> <br />The Community Services Manager reported Square Dancing would also <br />be offered this fall at the Old Fire Hall.
