STAFF REPORT

TO: Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM: Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager

DATE: June 30, 2017

RE: Engagement Plan for Parks & Recreation Commission

In order to get the most out of the Parks Master Plan, it is important to get the feedback of as many
individuals in the community as possible. A couple ways to get the communities feedback on the
Little Canada Parks and Recreation system will be through an on-line survey, interactions at
events, and other outreach opportunities. The role of the Parks and Recreation Commission will
be vital in achieving a quality Parks Master Plan.

Staff has created some engagement strategies that will help in this process. To encourage
involvement in the on-line survey, a drawing will be held for the chance to win city apparel or gift
cards from local Little Canada restaurants. Staff will also have smaller promotional items that can
be given out to individuals that participate in other ways. Business cards will be created that will
be easily handed out to individuals to direct them to the City website to complete the survey. The
on-line survey will be promoted on social media, City newsletter, City web site, SEH client project
web site, flyers, and any other resources available.

The City will be participating the Canadian Days Parade and will have some promotional items to
hand out, as well as, information that will direct individuals to the website to participate in the on-
line survey.

Staff is looking for Park & Recreation Commission members to sign up to volunteer at
Canadian Days to help inform and get feedback from the community.
