STAFF REPORT

TO: Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM: Bryce Shearen, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Manager

DATE: July 28, 2017

RE: Parks Master Plan Update

Mr. Bob Kost and his team have been working on a draft of the park assessments they have
made. They have also helped complete the community survey and they have gone ‘live’ with
their Little Canada Parks Master Plan project website. Their project website will be another tool
for people who are interested in keeping updated with the project and information regarding
meeting dates, community workshops and access to interim planning documents.

They will be present at the City booth at Canadian Days with two large boards. The first board
will focus on Pioneer Park and the wow-factor initiative with some images of new special
facilities such as a large adventure playground, an iconic performance pavilion, and an
interactive water features/splash pad to help stimulate ideas. The second board will be based on
the question “What initiatives should Little Canada prioritize for future implementation?” This
will allow people to place dots on their top four of eight listed offerings. They will also be
pulling a wagon around Canadian Days that contains a sandwich board with an exhibit (attached
to either side) with the title “In My Park I’d Like to Have ______.” They will have colored
sharpie pens for people to write their ideas onto the boards, and bag of lollipops to hand out.
They plan on staffing the event from approximately 9 am. to 1 pm.

Attached:
• SEH Little Canada Parks Master Plan project website
• Summary of Parks Commission Placemaking Exercise July 6, 2017
